The Case against Tipping Essay Example for Free
The Case against Tipping Essay Pros -Promoting businesses locally or globally. -Tipping helps employees with low hourly rate positions. -Tipping is complimentary -Personal good deed Cons -Already added into gratuity -Mandatory instead of Complimentary -Expected instead of being thankful -No choice People used to be polite, and thankful especially in the act of tipping where it is common place instead of a good deed. This creates problems because what if Im low on funds this particular night. For low paying positions such as waitress or valet parking is fine but it should ultimately be the patronââ¬â¢s choice. If a taxi cab driver expects lump sums of tips and I believe taxi cab drivers make a good living he better not shout at me alongside a curb driving slowly for two block shouting obscenities. People should be more humble and less expectant of a choice based upon the individual I am not obligated to tip or get tipped if someone does tip me God Bless them. The consequences of Carnage as Entertainment Pros Educational programs Comedy sitcoms/TV shows and movies Recreational programs Helps visible learners Cons Less communication Strain on eyes Child exposure to violent and sexual programs Behavioral problems Television is probably one of the most used inventions of the world as far as using your eyes and ears producing emotions and such. Today there is most likely more than one television set in one household. You can find television any and everywhere from bars, restaurants, Laundromats, barber shop etc. and the list goes on. However there is a down side as entertaining and consuming it may be. We have a generation of kids who refuse or simply donââ¬â¢t know how to communicate through dialogue. Furthermore that leads to obese and inactive lifestyle instead of going for a jog or attend a social gathering we are too busy with our mouths and eyes open in front of the television set.
Hunting song Essay Example for Free
Hunting song Essay This story, ââ¬Å"Hunting Songâ⬠, helps us envision the deer hunting tactics of the Navajo people. Although the true moral of this story is terrifying, the author of this poem wrote it in a way that it sounds almost peaceful. He uses beautiful, environmental imagery such as the mountains and dewy flowers to help us picture this scene better in our minds. This story teaches us about the Navajo song writing tradition, their appreciation towards the deer, and their hunting tactics. A major aspect of the Navajo culture is song writing. The people practically wrote songs for most of their activities, such as hunting. They have many, many songs that describe the many different facets of life. The song, Hunting Song is one of the more superior songs out of all the rest. That is because it was said by the Navajo bards, that the deer transformed itself into human. This explains why the hunter of this story was very content with killing this deer. It shows how the hunter may have felt proud to have caught an animal that is so incredible. The tribeââ¬â¢s appreciation for the deer is amazing. This song is basically a sacred verse for killing the deer. Itââ¬â¢s incredible how the Navajo people are so thankful. For instance, people nowadays, in Korean society, kill cows and pigs. However, they do not particularly feel appreciative towards them. This song helps us understand how the Navajo are one with nature. It teaches the importance of the animals and helps us value what we receive in life. Although there is insufficient information in this story to figure out how they hunt, we can get a general consensus of it. In the last stanza, the author stated how he killed the deer by the ââ¬Å"luck of (his) chase. â⬠This last part helps me picture a man holding a spear, chasing the deer. However, we do not know if that is how the deer actually died. The fun part of this is that the author left the hunting techniques out so that his audience may imagine many other ways the hunter could have murdered the deer. From evaluating this hunting song, I was convinced that we all should appreciate and take value of our surroundings. I was surprisingly very inspired by the Navajo culture. It made me think of the time when I went hunting with my friendââ¬â¢s family back in the States. Although I didnââ¬â¢t recite a sacred verse to the elk we killed, I now know that I should the next time I go hunting. I feel as though Iââ¬â¢ve learned so much about the people of Navajo and their traditions. Hunting Song teaches us about the Navajo song writing tradition, their appreciation toward the deer, and their awesome hunting tactics.

Examining The Business Sectors Of Projects Information Technology Essay
Examining The Business Sectors Of Projects Information Technology Essay This project is done individually and it is a research project. In this project we will look at two different large organisations and compare them with each other. The two companies I have chosen are part of the SATRIX top 40 on the JSE list. I have chosen the two most popular Cell phone providers in whole South Africa, VODACOM and MTN. Over the past years, these two companies became very successful and they grow more and more everyday. They both have been fighting against each other on who is the better and more successful provider in South Africa. I have researched a lot about the two companies and they both have a lot of differences. I made research on the shareholders of each business, the Corporate Social Responsibilities and Environmental Sustainability, the BBBEE Compliance and the Companies Performance of each business. This project will also show you which company complies more with the King 11 Report and Triple Bottom Line Reporting as well as the company which will be the best proposition for a prospective investor. CSR related Issues in South Africa The needs of our society in South Africa are called the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Social Responsibilities are not only important in South Africa but also in the rest of our world. Social Responsibility is a very important part in many spheres of any business; examples are poor working conditions, dumping of waste or abuse peoples savings to enrich them. CSR addresses the legal, ethical, commercial and other expectations society has for business. The CSR needs to deal with shareholders, customers, suppliers, employees and other communities. Major issues are: Human rights Labour conditions Environmental impacts Operations Products and services In South Africa, growing demands are imposed on any type of society. Business needs to contribute to a huge extend to solve any problems which accrue in the business. In South Africa, CSR refers to operate and organize everything in a good manner. It can be measured be performance indicators, which include: less operating costs, advanced brand image, higher salary and employee retention. Environmental Issues In South Africa Environmental issues in South Africa are mainly caused by us humans who dont look after our environment and just do what they want to. People like that, dont really care about our nature and they just dont follow the rules which help our country to be cleaner and healthier. Most of those issues have a huge impact on us humans. Issues like that include; safer water supplies, population explosion and depletion. The problem with South Africa is that it is to over populate and the population needs to be cut down by quite a lot in order to have a better environment. There are many types of issues which we have in South Africa. Issues like climate change, land use, farming, nuclear issues and pollution are the most common issues in South Africa. But you get many other issues which affect our environment everyday. Stakeholders Stakeholders are the most important people in any business. Without them, its not possible to run any type of business. Every business has to have stakeholders. Stakeholders are the members of a business. You get 2 different types of Stakeholders, namely internal and external stakeholders. Internal Stakeholders: Employees Manager Owners External Stakeholders: Suppliers Society Government Creditors Shareholders Customers Social CSR Issues Different forms of CSR have been found in South Africa over the couple of years. Apartheid played a huge role in it to shape these programmes and to run them successfully. After the 1990s, South Africa ranked into the global economy and new dynamics and programmes have been added to the CSR. The CSR works its way though many policy debates and corporate agendas. The CSRs issues are very important to any type of business, because it helps you to be more successful and improve the working condition of each member. Major issues are: Human rights Labour conditions Environmental impacts Operations Products and services Yes, there are many more issues but those are the most important ones I have found and chosen. These issues are very important for each business doesnt matter what type of business it is. It helps to make your employees happier and make them feel comfortable at their working place. Environmental CSR Issues An environmental issue is the way how a human treats and looks after our environment. Its the humans who dont look after our environment and because of that; our environment is not in a great shape at the moment. Nature dies and animals are starting too die because us humans dirty the nature and environment. Environmental issues in South Africa are mainly caused by us humans who dont look after our environment and just do what they want to. Issues like that include; safer water supplies, population explosion and depletion. The problem with South Africa is that it is to over populate and the population needs to be cut down by quite a lot in order to have a better environment. More types of issues are; Climate change Dams Energy Land use Farming Nuclear issues Pollution If most of the people in South Africa would look after our environment a lot, we would have a great environment and the nature would be cleaner. But unfortunately, most of the population in South Africa dont care about their environment. They destroy our environment more and more day after day. BBBEE BBBEE (Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment) is a form of empowerment created by the South African government in order to make it even for blacks and whites. As you know, in South Africa we have Whites, Blacks, Coloureds and Indians. Most of the people in South Africa think that the white people should be supported more in getting a job. They think whites are the highest race in South Africa; they are at the top and think they better than the blacks or Indians. But its so not true. Every human, doesnt matter what colour their skin has every human should be treated the same in any way. Thats why the BBBEE plays a huge role in South Africa and its very often used by a lot of companies around South Africa. Every year, the country sets a vision statement by reaching some goals. Some of the goals include; 50% of management is black 40% of the total staff are woman I think that the BBBEE plays a huge role in South African businesses and it helps the business to have an equal amount of employees. They should have different races and genders and I mean a business is only going to be successful when there are different types of people in it. More ideas will come and the business will be more successful. Stakeholders The companies I have chosen are very large and they have a lot of stakeholders which work for the company. Comment: Ive researched the different stakeholders the 2 companies have and the shares they each charge. At the end, it was MTN who sells his shares for much more money. The dividend MTN shareholders will get is more than double the amount you get from Vodacom. So, it is better at the moment to buy shares from MTN rather then from Vodacom. Responsibility towards Stakeholders Vodacom: Communities: Vodacom plans to improve the engagement processes further this year. Suppliers: Vodacom improved its BBBEE score from 55.2% to 68.0%, according to DTI Codes. Employees: Vodacom invested over R70 Million on training employees only. Vodacom tries his best to make it the most comfortable for their employees by improving the working conditions. HIV tests are regularly done. MTN: Employees: Created an awareness training 5 years ago, this improves year by year. Makes sure the employees are comfortable at their working place, so they will be able to work the best they can. HIV tests are made every month. Government: Government focuses on creating small groups to make it easier to work. Annual interviews conducted. Communities: Press conferences are held every week. Annual interviews conducted. Good education. Most Credible Policy Both companies, Vodacom and MTN, have very good policies which they follow all the time and try too improve them as much as they can. A big role in both companies is HIV/AIDS. They both test all their employees nearly every month and thats good to hear. It gives other workers more confident to work now that they cant get sick or infected by any viruses. But when I go more into detail, Vodacom has impressed me more. Theyve spent so much money on training employees and making their working place comfortable for them. Policy Projects of each Company Vodacom: Education project Health project Security project Penryn Mobile Lab Schola Amoris School Committee for Crime prevention Mahumani Empowerment centre Reagona Disability Unit SAICA NMMU Scholarship Cities of Africa Wits centre of Excellence Vodacom Education Project- the Company invests money to equip and educate young people with the skills they will need when they go out to the big world. Vodacom Health Project- the company invests quality health initiatives to develop to their full potential. It focuses on surgery, HIV/AIDS and feeding schemes. Vodacom Security Project- security is the secondary focus of the whole Vodacom foundation. Projects like Men against child abuse or committee for crime prevention were created. MTN: Yello Care South African Red Cross Fifa World Cup Cancer Research Centre Yello Care programme- a volunteer campaign that involves every employee in community building projects in addition to the MTN Foundation initiatives. Fifa world cup- MTN supports the fifa world cup 2010. A lot of money will be donated to the cancer research centre. At the last years qualification, every goal a team made, R10000 were donated to the cancer centre. Cancer Research Centre- MTN has made an agreement with United Nations Development programme to fight against cancer. Most Sustainable projects: Vodacom and MTN, both have a lot of projects created and most of them were really successful. But again, Vodacom has better projects and all of them were successful. Vodacom helped South Africa a lot more than MTN. Vodacom helped kids to have an education and get work. They also have created a health project which runs since 2008. BBBEE Policies Vodacom: Equity ownership Management control Employment equity Skills development Enterprise development Socioeconomic development Preferential procurement Management control- Black representation rose very high. More black people have joined the management team. Employment equity- Vodacom are adding hundreds of employees to their team every month. Year after year, more black people come and work at vodacom with the right education. Skills Development- over R90 million has vodacom spent on training employees only. R68 million were spent on Black Designated Groups. MTN: Increasing access to MTN procurement for blacks Increasing human resource and skill development Encouraging partnerships between Black enterprises Promoting economic transformation MTN has a license to promote Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment within South Africa through its procurement procedures. Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment was integrated with the tender rules and policies to assist disadvantaged communities. Companies Performance Vodacom: Group highlights: 16.5% growth in group customers to 39.6 million 10.5% growth in group EBITDA to R18.2 billion 28.8% growth in group data revenue to R6.4 billion BBBEE transaction completed in South Africa in October 2008 Acquired Gateway on 30 December 2008 Listed on the JSE Limited on 18 May 2009 R500 million spend by Vodacom Foundation in its first ten years Financial Information Summary of Vodacom MTN: Highlights: 90,7 million subscribers up 48% from December 2007 R102,5 billion up 40% from December 2007 R43,2 billion up 36% from December 2007 R904,4 cents up 33% from December 2007 Financial Information Summary of MTN Vodacom: Balance Sheet of Vodacom as at 31.March.2009 MTN: Balanced Sheet of MTN as at 30.April.2009 Conclusion The 2 companies I have chosen are South Africas biggest cell phone providers. Ive done a lot of research and came to a final conclusion. Both, Vodacom and MTN have positives and negatives but for me Vodacom is a better provide between the 2. Vodacom is more reliable, I can trust it more, it has many more projects done than MTN and its more successful. For me, Vodacom is the best cell phone provider in whole South Africa.

Students with Disabilities Must be Included in Public Schools Essay
Students with Disabilities Must be Included in Public Schools Billy is physically handicapped and goes to school on a bus that has to pick him up quite early, for he has to go to school an hour away from his home. When Billy is at school, he gets to be in classes with all sorts of children; some are in wheelchairs, like he is, but they are unable to move by themselves, and some can walk, but Billy has a hard time talking to some of those children because they are developmentally younger than he is. All his classmates are his friends, but they never come over to play after school because he lives so far away, and Billy does not have a lot in common with them. Billy likes to play basketball in his driveway and he loves to talk about the latest pop music. There is a school about four blocks away from his house, but professionals in the school system have recommended that Billy not be included in regular classrooms. People who know Billy well would describe him as funny, friendly, smart, and athletic. People who are in charge of making sure Billy h as the kind of education he deserves would describe him as having cerebral palsy, conductive hearing loss, and mild dyslexia. Were Billy included in the regular classroom at the school four blocks away, he would be known for who he is and not what he has; I believe the quality of his life would come rightfully before the quantity of adaptations he requires. Inclusion is realistic and necessary, and public schools should implement it as the next logical step in the process of helping students with disabilities. The basic building blocks for inclusion are bringing necessary support services to the student, being in the regular classroom, and being at a nearby school. These things are n... ...Many believe it is being functionally and physically able to perform tasks in everyday routines of one's life. This being accepted, teachers teach "life skills" to their students and believe they are providing special services. Can one really think his or her life is meaningful just because he or she has the ability to wash dishes or make a bed? Relationships are the basis of learning about and enjoying life. Most teachers agree that handicapped children have a right to improved quality of life, but by primarily teaching functional skills and doing so in segregated classrooms, they are seriously undermining that right. By including handicapped children in the regular classroom in public schools, the opportunity to build relationships exists, and it becomes possible to meet the seemingly unrealistic goals of belonging and providing a fair chance at a fulfilling life. Transgender Students and the Learning Process Essay -- Essays Papers
Transgender Students and the Learning Process Introduction Identity is a key factor of an individual in the society. Identity often is skewed despite the rhetorical statement: ââ¬Å"You are who you are.â⬠However, many times a society unconsciously attempts to mold the identities of individuals into homogenous products. The important thing is not to let yourself prejudge individuals or acts of people because this creates an assumption that brings a stigma against the individual. Transgender people face the difficult challenge of being accepted into society because they either do not fit a traditional gender assignment to their sex, or they are not willing to specify a particular gender recognized by society. The court case that I will use to explore transgender identity is Doe v. Yunits. The case of Pat Doe v. John Yunits involves a young, transgender student disciplined by school authorities. The school deems to be an authority on a personââ¬â¢s dress attire while attending school. The court goes through a series of deductio ns testing the freedom of expression, liberty in appearance, and the application of sex-class discrimination. While the ruling of the case brings awareness of the existence of transgendered people, it is stigmatized by a dominant culture whose basis of the legal system protects proscribed gender identities rather than the protection of freedom of choosing multiple identities. Additionally, the court deemed that Pat Doe has a medical condition that requires her to wear womenââ¬â¢s garments. The medical condition called Gender Identity Disorder speaks volumes about how society treats unrecognized differences when it comes to diagnosing a gender expression. The information of the court case allows you to get em... ...aggy jeans and a white-beater is day he fails to uphold her true gender identity. Judith Butler in Steinââ¬â¢s article best describes this as ââ¬Å"[D]rawing upon the queer practices of drag, cross-dressing, and butch-femme, she [Butler] develops a conception of gender as performance, and of gender parodies as subversive actsâ⬠(Stein 181). My question that comes out of queer analysis and the Doe v. Yunits, Why do people need to perform a gender act? Is it to assert a type of sexuality, sexual orientation, and or rather stereotyped one? Is a transgender person better to perform a gender act that is understood? If the transgender person performs an act contrary to gender they choose, is the person a hypocrite? Is my gender controlling me or I am taking charge of my gender? I hope have attempted to rock your thoughts and perceptions, and perhaps even fuck with your gender.

coma :: essays research papers
à à à à à The book starts out with a woman, Nancy Greenly, going to the Boston Memorial Hospital because she is having an extra heavy period. After being examined, she is going to have an operation in OR room 8. Something happens during the operation, and Nancy becomes brain dead. à à à à à Susan Wheeler, a medical student, is waking up for her first day in the field after two years of studying to become a medical doctor. She is very attractive with blond hair. She has blue, brown, and flecks of green in her eyes. When she and five other medical students go the Boston Memorial Hospital, all that the nurses think of them is that they are nuisances. They find Mark Bellows, who will be watching over them while they were staying at the hospital. Bellows plans to give a lecture every morning, and have one of the students give a lecture every afternoon. After they go to an OR room to see a real operation, they see Nancy Greenly and Susan is shocked at what happened to her. Bellows tells her that the chance of something like that happening is one in one hundred thousand. When Bellows is talking to them, Susan gets paged and is needed to start an I.V. The patient, Sean Berman is having a minor knee surgery. When Sean is in surgery, the same thing that happened to Nancy Greenly happens to him too, and Susan decides to research the topic for her third year report and find out why these two things have happened in such a short time when the chances are so slim. à à à à à This is my least favorite part. The first thing that Susan does is go to the hospital library to research coma. She finds out that no one really knows why anyone goes into a coma, and that the subject is so vast it is unbelievable. She writes down everything she finds out in her notebook. She then finds the main computer of the hospital and fills out a request form for all cases of coma occurring to inpatients which were unrelated to the patients known disease. She didn't sign her name, though, and when someone else put their request in the box she put it under his so that the information would be sent to that person who was Henry Schwartz. When he got his information with Susan's on the bottom, she told him that there was a mix-up and her request was put with his, so he gave her the bottom part of the printout. coma :: essays research papers à à à à à The book starts out with a woman, Nancy Greenly, going to the Boston Memorial Hospital because she is having an extra heavy period. Define and Explain Branding Principles with Examples
Define and explain Branding principles with examples? Principle # 01 KEEP IT SIMPLE:- One most common mistake that marketing and advertising people do is that they say a lot through their ads. so keep it simple so it remains in mind of consumer for longer period of time. because one big idea is best. Example:- 1. Subway focus on health 2. Nestle on health. 3. Nike say just do it 4. Addidas say impossible is nothing. 5. Gulahmad of high class 6. Sana safina quality lawn for summers. 7. Daewoo express provide safe and timely journey. On average one person is hit by 500-1000 ads in one day. onsumer cannot saturate all of them. It should be personal and simple means talk about consumer, tell how customer can get maximum benefit through it. Principle # 02 WORD OF MOUTH PRODUCE IN MASSES:- This rule builds the brand. its difficult to build brand only through advertising. its important to build advertising and public relation side by side. many dots and cons fails to build brand. those who survived only through media, public relations and word of mouth. PUBLIC RELATION ACTIVIST:- 1. Paid documentaries by baharia town. 2. GEO news. 3. News on facebook on launching new brands. . Promotion in magazines before brand comes i. e. tooti fruit in nation magazine 5. Can feed news to the media, write about the elements. 6. Photography Result of activist is not predictable i. e Amazon. com had good HR. RED BULL doing PR activities around the globe not spending much on ads but on PR. Principle # 03 DEFINE USP OF YOUR BRAND:- Focused on that point which is its strength,on which brand is powerful. because that point consumerwi ll not forget. Broadly define traits of your brand either it is Big/small,expensive/inexpensive,local/international.Narrow down list to define your brand. Examples:- NIRALA initially was a local business but now national brand in sharjah and dubai. CHAMMAN initially was in Lahore now in different cities i. e Islamabad,multan,Karachi. MASOOMS in Lahore Karachi and multan. SHAAN MASALA was local brand but now it is international one. STARBUKS harward idea in mid 1980 to create chain of coffee houses. TOY R US initially just they store on small scale; now leading kids store for toys; video games; dolls; action figures. Belong to different nice but being focused and different is best. cattered messages on too many traits ;rather be focused on single/few traits is in effective way. One cannot be every thing to every one. One have to get in to mind of consumers; scattered message is not effective. Principle # 04 DIFFERENCIATION IS THE KEY:- If you canââ¬â¢t be different then make it different. what make your company and your product different from the compotators. EXAMPLES:- 1. Balli ki chay:-sitting environment is different; for hanging out for boys. 2. Gans ink:- making ink; they differentiated by putting chocolates in packaging of ink to attract consumer. . Pepsi give shaan tikka masala to attract customers. 4. Frozen yogurt differentia ted as it is replacement of ice-cream and low sugar having less calories. Principle # 05 1ST BRAND ADVANTAGE:- Its not about the quality of the product or the size of the marketing budget. most often its not about being the first one. being first in mind not in market. Examples:- 1. Coke is first carbonated. 2. Polaroid was the first instant developing camera. 3. Fedex was first company of ship packages overnight across the US. 4. Lado marka first cloth wasing soap. . Haleeb sab sa garha doodh first tetra pak. These companies and their products succees in being the first to gain space in our mind. when first gain advantage then other stand its behind and by doing better marketing they can beat compition in consumer view. But what if u not # 01? Strong 2nd is not a bad in business. world buyers like choices. if you have a choice to become 2nd in market;compete hard against leader and permote your overall category. Examples:- 1. Macdonalds is #1 in fastfood chain buts ubway is #1 in h ealthy food. 2.Coke #1 but pepsi #2 3. Merinda #1 in orange flavor and 7up in lemon flavor. 4. Mobilink #1 in business class but ufone in youth. Principle # 06 PERCEPTION AND QUALITY Its not about the quality of the product but also the perception of quality that really counts. if it is branded it is automatically valueable. Example:- 1. PIZZAHUT is an international chain perception built its pizza will be best but those who taste local lassani pizza is also high quality with low cost. 2.
